Good morning everybody! Our family is all slowly recovering from our awful colds and follow-up sinus infections. It’s nice to all share the same exact Amoxicillin prescription. We’ve gone through three boxes of tissues and counting, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel here. Or at least the end to our runny noses.
In any case, over the weekend I ran into a nice “heat map” showing the net worths of our congressmen all laid out over at Vizual Statistix. This is a fun little chart that lets you see what everybody in Congress is worth. It’s neat to compare and see how you stack up to your representatives.
I was actually surprised by some of the figures. Obviously we all expect them to be pretty well off, and a large number are. Including some who are way beyond “well off” (Hi Darrell Issa! I’m talking about you and your $450M+). But I was also surprised to see that my two New York State Senators (Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand) aren’t millionaires at all. And while my Congresswoman of 26+ years, Louise Slaughter, is worth a cool $2.78M – the one in the next district over (Dan Maffei) is actually in the hole -$10,000. Who knew?
In any case, I do feel a bit hopeful since I compare favorably to my own Senators, and I’ve got a number of years to go before I reach their age. But they do get the benefit of an amazing pension and health care. Click on over and take look to see what your Representatives are worth and how you stack up.
